Academic development as changing social practice : the generic attributes project

Simon Barrie

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

This chapter explores a strategy for achieving institutional learning and teaching enhancement which is characterized as being both research-led and firmly situated in the ideas of practice theory discussed in the opening chapters of this book. The process of change itself has as its central tenet the notion that it is necessary to effectively re-engage academics as citizens of the university (Macfarlane 2006) who participate in collegial decision making to achieve the sort of institutional teaching and learning change which was the goal of this initiative.
