Academic motivation and engagement : examining relationships with key educational outcomes

    Abstract

    ![CDATA[What relationships do different facets of academic motivation and engagement have with numeracy and literacy performance? This study presents data from an investigation into 3,561 (N) year 7 to 12 students’ from eight Australian high schools. Students were administered the Student Motivation and Engagement Scale (SMES) as well as a standardised verbal and math achievement measure. Following a construct validity approach, confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) and structural equation modelling were performed. The findings and implications of this research will be discussed with particular focus on specific facets of motivation and engagement that have the potential to yield important changes in students’ achievement.]]
