    Abstract

Consequent to the WTC twin tower collapse, there is a growing interest in the use of vertical transport systems (lifts) in high rise buildings during fire emergencies. While additional means of evacuation facilities are explored for safe evacuation from the buildings, evacuation using lifts during fire emergencies is still a controversial issue because the safe operation of normal lift is not always secured.
