Abstract

Background: Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) and large sessile lesions (≥20mm) has become an increasingly popular alternative to surgical resection, especially in patients with significant comorbidity. To date, data regarding safety and mortality of EMR in comparison to surgical procedures is limited. The aim of our study was to compare actual endoscopic mortality to predicted surgical mortality in a large, prospective multicenter trial.
