Abstract
![CDATA[This study presents a new, multidimensional approach to physical activity motivation with a view to establishing the validity of a hypothesised measure that operationalised this innovative approach in the form of four primary factors: adaptive cognitions and adaptive behaviours, and impeding dimensions and maladaptive dimensions. Among 368 Australian adolescents, the study examined the psychometric properties (known as a within network approach) of the Physical Activity Motivation Scale (PAMS) – a new instrument drawn from the educational domain and designed to measure physical activity motivation. Confirmatory factor analysis using LISREL was conducted to establish the within-network validity of the PAMS. The findings confirmed a sound factor structure, good fit, strong loadings, and high reliability. Results are interpreted in terms of future directions for possible physical activity interventions aimed at increasing both the uptake and continuation of activity.]]
