Abstract
Ali Shariati was a significant ideologue of Iranian revolutionary thought. Shariati represented a distinct formulation of social and political thought that placed religion at its center. His academic career was marked by a unique arbitration of "original" and "protestant" Shi'ite Islam with a culturally sensitive modernization process. He remains an influential philosopher on the politics of religion and society.
