Abstract

Complementary medicine (CM) is a term generally used to encompass a diverse range of therapies and health products that am to prevent, treat, or manage illness. The term CM is often used interchangeable with traditional, holistic, natural, or alternative medicine and other variations. Complementary treatments may be used alone, as a form of self-help, or in combination with conventional medicine. Alternative treatments may be used instead of conventional medicine. CM is not considered core conventional medical or allied health practices. CM relates to a broad range of healing modalities that include health systems such as traditional Chinese medicine, modalities and practices (e.g., massage, acupuncture, and herbal medicines).
