Abstract

![CDATA[Construction is one of the largest global industries. It is highly resource intensive and long criticized for its underperformance. Success, failure, productivity, efficiency and effectiveness are some of the key terms associated with performance that have not been clearly defined with regard to construction projects. In order to improve performance, it is necessary to measure it. When indicators are measurable to a certain level of accuracy, those can be considered as ‘measures’. Even though price is a popular measure of performance, non-price measures related to on site construction duration, productivity of workforce, amount of construction waste, state of health & safety facilities, number of accidents, number of defective works are increasingly considered as providing valuable inputs towards performance measurement. Apart from these objective measures, subjective measures are also available mainly regarding the client’s perspective. Easily measurable data in construction projects can be utilized for assessing and predicting performance. Further, the perception of performance varies depending on the background of the stakeholders of construction. Hence this study aims at identifying and assessing non-price measures to analyse performance of construction projects based on different stakeholders’ opinions. Initially, the various terminology related to performance are differentiated. Then the factors of performance are analysed and classified. This paper presents progress on research work including literature review and part of a preliminary survey conducted at an Expert Forum to identify and rank important non-price measures of construction performance.]]
