Abstract
China is increasingly viewed as a dominant and essential participant in the global economic future. What social and business models is it building on? In particular, what are the impacts of reform and privatization on its work systems? The inherent conflict between traditional values and the requirements of contemporary capitalism is placing enormous pressures on China. What is disturbing is China's commitment to the development of its national economy even at the expense of environmental and social sustainability.
