    Abstract

![CDATA[This paper presents a number of commonly used, open-source libraries for numerically intensive computations. Basic guidelines for the construction of a cluster based on off-the-shelf personal computers will also be given. Examples of the solution algorithms and performance gains achievable in solving some typical power system problems, both in a single machine as well as in a distributed environment, will also be demonstrated.]]
