Abstract
Shanshui (山水), literally 'mountains and water' in Chinese language, refers to both landscape in general, and the philosophical concept that embodies a specific vision of Chinese people towards the physical (mainly natural) environment since ancient time. In this chapter, we will focus on the ideas of shanshui to examine the complex relationships between human beings and the environment, as depicted in a range of animated texts such as film, art and live performance.
