    Abstract

This paper explores the characteristics of effective arrival and orientation strategies for first-year students. 'Arrival' refers to students' earliest interactions with the institution once they have formally enrolled, though in some institutions, it may also include such elements as regisration and enrolment. In particular, it refers to the first day or week on campus - or online if enrolled in external mode.
