Abstract

The construction management team benefits from effective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) in construction project delivery due to its reliability in decision-making. It also has several advantages to the success of construction projects and the management team involved. This study assesses M&E effectiveness for construction projects in the South African construction industry. Data were collected within the study area using a simple random sampling method. Also, seventy copies of the questionnaire were obtained from the construction professionals in the study area. Data obtained were analysed using a descriptive statistical methodology, and a statistical data equation was applied to determine the study's valid mean item score. The study findings indicated that gathering required knowledge, development of construction expertise, early completion of projects, better supervision of projects, improved professional competence, and better production output were the highest-ranked impacts of M&E effectiveness in projects within the South African construction industry. Conclusively, stakeholders in construction projects should involve M&E practitioners in the construction project planning, construction, and handing-over stages for effective processes and procedures. The study recommended that for effective M&E in construction projects, the government should enact a policy to support M&E implementation for construction projects in the construction industry.
