Abstract
This article reviews the historical and contemporary understanding of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD, and the etiology, biology, diagnosis, and management of ADHD as informed by recent discoveries from neuroscience. It touches on the challenges in describing the neurobiology of a syndromal disorder with multi-faceted etiology. A common core of cognitive inefficiency is proposed along with future goals for using integrative approaches to assess ADHD and provide personalized medicine.
