Abstract

Stadiums function as important pieces of civil architecture, by connecting sports clubs to the communities around them whilst giving local fans a home to be proud of. Through investigating stadium design and use from a fan perspective, as well as factors which can inhibit or enhance the fan experience, this research report aims to provide insights for Parramatta Rugby League Club (PRLC) to improve fan engagement, satisfaction and retention at Bankwest stadium on match-day. Therefore, the overarching objective of the research aim of this current research project is to better understand the various elements that influence fan participation in the match-day experience at Bankwest Stadium. The research design employed multiple methods of enquiry in an effort to gain comprehensive insights into fan behavior, perceptions of the stadium and how the relationship between these variables contribute to match day measures of satisfaction. The study is comprised of quantitative survey data, match-day observations and depth interviews. In all, the data was collected at seven matches with a survey sample size of 343 respondents, 84 hours of observations and 16 depth interviews with Parramatta fans.
