Abstract

This chapter speculates on the role of ‘emergent' communities on contemporary Indigenous queer experiences of be(com)ing in the city, focusing on Sydney, Australia. A relational approach is adopted to provide a twist in thinking about the ways in which Indigenous queer community building is led, enacted and networked at multiple scales within the urban landscape. The discussion highlights how Indigenous queer people have carved out their own urban spaces, and delineates the ways in which Indigenous queer leadership appears to have contributed substantively to the development of these spaces.
