Abstract
The rare heteropolymolybdate mineral betpakdalite has been found in the tin deposits of Elsmore, in the New England district of New South Wales. It occurs associated with scorodite, koechlinite, pharmacosiderite, bismite and powellite as an oxidation product of molybdenite and arsenopyrite in a block of the greisenous granite containing the tin lodes for which the area is famous. The formation of betpakdalite is consistent with acidic conditions in the oxidized zone.
