Abstract
This chapter describes the emergence of a new species of human being - the bio-citizen. The bio-citizen is a product of an era of escalating anxiety in the public imagination about an international pandemic of overweight and obesity. A Google of the word 'obesity' generates millions of references that increase in number on a daily basis e.g., 32,600,000 items (3 January 2008), 33,600,000 (9 June 2008).
