Abstract

On 25 May 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old African American man was killed in Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA) when a white police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes. Other police officers watched on and chose not to intervene. The incident was filmed and quickly shared on social media networks around the world, sparking outrage and protests which led to riots and clashes with police (McHarris 2020).
