Abstract

Food systems play a significant role in global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with agricultural activities accounting for more than 80% of these emissions. Approximately 30%-40% of all food produced globally is wasted at various supply chain stages from production to consumption.1 This squanders valuable resources (including water, land, energy, and labor) and is a lost opportunity to alleviate food insecurity. Addressing these challenges is critical for environmental sustainability and keeping pace with a projected global population of 9.7 billion by 2050.
