Abstract
Drawing on a remarkably diverse range of disciplines, Jef Verschueren has addressed the challenge of providing a methodological resource for an area, that is, the study of ideology, which, since Destutt de Tracy (1754-1836) who coined the term 'ideology' in 1796, has occupied a special place in European philosophy. The present volume adds to a growing body of research committed to the relationship between language use and ideology. This book engages the reader with a new methodological framework for the study of ideology in written language, utilizing the tools, methods and theories of discourse analysis and pragmatics. It consists of three chapters with a brief introduction and a conclusion.
