Abstract

Researchers’ multilingual capabilities provide resources for generating original and significant contributions to knowledge. By doing so, researchers generate original knowledge that makes ‘a substantial contribution to a discipline or area of professional practice’ (Australian Qualifications Framework Council, 2013). Despite researchers’ efforts to contribute to the tradition of creating original and significant knowledge, doing so is riddled with considerable risks (Wilkins et al., 2019). The responsibility of researchers to produce new knowledge is not sufficient to legitimis e the use of their multilingual capabilities for making disciplinary or professional progress.
