Building effective student-staff partnerships in the Third Space

Abstract

This contribution shares how the identities of Digital Champions (DCs) as student educational developers transform when delivering digital literacy projects at Western Sydney University (WSU). It explores implications for their future careers while working within Third Space. DCs are a multidisciplinary group of six student partners from undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR levels within WSU's Learning and Teaching Portfolio. The DCs as student educational developers enhance digital literacy and capabilities of students in partnership with multiple stakeholders including students, professional and educational development staff. The digital artifact as a video includes a vlog and an interview component. Through the Digital YOU Students' Projects Vlog, the DCs share their journey in planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating a digital literacy project, highlighting how their identities transform while:Aligning projects with university priorities for digital literacy and student experience.Forming internal and external partnerships within Third Space and beyond.Gauging the impact of our work. Through the Reflective Panel with DCs and Digital Learning Team, the DCs reflect on motivations, lessons learnt and ideas for other student educational developers' Third Space work readiness by sharing how toBuild effective student-staff partnerships in the Third Space.Enhance digital literacy among students using digital tools like Adobe, LMS, and Zoom.Professionally grow and consider future career trajectories in Third Space and beyond.Avail opportunities for work in Third Space as student partners. This contribution advocates for the benefits and impact of involving students as educational developers within the Third Space for building digital confidence and capabilities of the university community.
