Abstract
This article provides a theoretical framework for analysing the variety of ways Christianity has been assimilated into local cultures by indigenous peoples. It begins by stating the author’s methodology, followed by a clarification of terms. The core of the article focuses on two cases that illustrate contrasting responses to the impact of European Christianity within indigenous societies, one drawn from Zimbabwe in southern Africa and the other from Australia.
