    Abstract

Values education helps to provide society with people of good character who can improve the changing world, with all its social issues, in which we live. More importantly, such people can better deal with the unintended consequences of the Anthropocene. This chapter describes the Anthropocene and the associated issues of concern and uses examples to show values education can help by supporting a positive view of human nature – that people are cooperative more than competitive, and that kindness and altruism can change how we think and act. The chapter then looks at how values education can be implemented through the Education in Human Values (EHV) approach. The EHV model is outlined, together with its underlying philosophy of Educare, meaning to draw out from within.
