Abstract
CARECountry is a geo-emotional digital platform designed by Dr. Madison Shakespeare that enables users to map natural elements, document ecological changes, and share personal reflections on how these changes affect their wellbeing and connection to Country. Australian First Nations peoples have cared for Country for over 65,000 years, ensuring the wellbeing of all Communities and our shared natural environment. This Indigenous-designed project invites users to share their emotional responses to their unique experiences in nature and to reflect on environmental changes impacting Country.
CARECountry is a culturally respectful digital space that honours and values users’ lived experiences. By connecting contributions through shared connection to Country, it facilitates yarning and dialogue around collective care for the environment. By raising awareness of environmental changes that affect everyone, CARECountry promotes shared responsibility, allyship, and collective stewardship, reinforcing the deep interconnection between people’s wellbeing, place, and the health of Country. This platform fosters mutual understanding, healing, and culturally grounded relationships between people and the natural world.
