Caring for a person with substance dependence and complex post-traumatic distress syndrome

Abstract

![CDATA[The scenarios introduced in this chapter focus on the care of a person with substance use dependence and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This chapter will use the term ‘substance use dependence’ instead of commonly used terms such as ‘substance use disorder’ and ‘addiction’. We made this decision because language is powerful, and these negative terms can further stigmatise already highly marginalised groups, such as people who inject drugs (Network of Alcohol and other Drugs 1 [NADA] ).]]
