Abstract
![CDATA[In this chapter, I focus critically on the "second generation" of second generation transnationalism. The second generation, the children of migrants, have been the focus of much research in immigrant reception countries during the second half of the 20th century. Most of this research has been predicated on the solving of an implicit problem within the categorisation of the second generation - how to fashion productive national citizens from people who, by definition, belong to two nations. However, as this chapter contends, it is possible to see the second generation as not merely a transitional identification, but as a cultural category in its own right and a viable lens through which complex identities can be better understood.]]
