    Abstract

When working with school age children you will come across some children with special needs. Although the term 'special needs' is very broad, it helps to identify children who need extra support to ensure that they are given the opportunity to participate as fully as possible in their environment. This chapter aims to introduce areas of special need you are likely to come across in child care situations, so that those children are given the necessary support to assist them to reach their potential.
