Abstract
![CDATA[Children are frequently involved with the use of information technology (IT). The type of exposure that school children have to a range of IT in the home and school environments is not clear. Additionally, there are no large scale studies with Australian children across various year groups to investigate whether children's exposure varies with age. Similarly, the impact of gender on IT exposure of Australian children is not well understood. The aims of this study were to investigate the exposure of children to IT in home and school environments. 1351 students from 10 schools in metropolitan Western Australia participated in the research. Students in years 1, 6, 9 and 11 completed the survey questionnaires and had their weight and height measured. Results indicate that the majority of students have access to and use a range of IT at home and school. The frequency, duration and type of IT used were associated with the environment and students' age and gender.]]
