Abstract

There has been a wealth of new evidence on wellbeing in the last decade and this new edition reflects our developing knowledge about factors that help us flourish, be resilient, form health relationships and be active, engaged learners. This edition has more detailed guidance on the quality of facilitation and encouragement to apply both the principles of the Circle philosophy and the learning from Circle sessions in everyday classroom practice. We need to teach social and emotional learning (SEL) in a context that is aligned and not counter-productive. If we want students to have positive relationships this needs to be modelled in the way we all relate to each other, together with congruent school priorities and policies. The framework in Appendix 1 provides twelve dimensions for the content of SEL together with suggestions for a context that will maximize sustainable outcomes. The evidence suggests that if you are embracing Circle Solutions fully you will be growing great kids and growing great schools.
