    Abstract

![CDATA[Collaboration literally means working together. Establishing collaborative improvement relationships is a protracted, long and difficult process. Research in this area has identified a number of factors that affect the process of developing a collaborative improvement (CoI) relationship. Recent research by the authors and other colleagues has shown that it is not so much the individual factors, but the configuration and interplay of these factors that determines the successful development of collaborative improvement. The research presented in this paper is aimed at increasing the understanding of the role of these critical success factors in different collaborations and, particularly, the interplay between these factors in implementing successful CoI.]]
