Abstract

With great interest, we read the paper by Wesselius et al. (2023) published in EJOGRB. The study demonstrated a significant decrease in perinatal mortality following the closure of a secondary obstetric care unit in a community hospital in an urban district. Additionally, a higher incidence of asphyxia and postpartum hemorrhage was reported. We acknowledge the importance and relevance of this issue, particularly in light of the increasing centralization of care and the consequent increase in the number of births per hospital.
