Abstract
We read with interest the article titled ‘White paper on pandemic preparedness in the blood supply’. Whilst we strongly support the majority of the recommendations, we question the emphasis placed on pathogen inactivation. A more accurate term is ‘pathogen reduction’, given current technologies do not completely eliminate transmission risk for all pathogens and all products and additional testing is required in some scenarios.
