Abstract
Jankowski et al's study investigating the determinants of perceived female genital attractiveness provides a novel contribution to the field of aesthetic surgery. Historically, the focus of female genital cosmetic surgery (FGCS) research and practice has been overwhelmingly on labiaplasty, particularly the reduction of the labia minora.2 This emphasis has seemingly often been justified by cultural ideals, media representations, and assumptions about patient dissatisfaction, rather than empirical evidence regarding the factors influencing aesthetic perception. Jankowski et al1 challenge this perspective by evaluating relative contributions of vulvar skin perfusion, texture, and morphological features to perceived attractiveness using an innovative study design.
