    Abstract

    Presents a commentary on the article "Understanding Mass Panic and Other Collective Responses to Threat and Disaster," by Anthony R. Mawson, published in this issue of the journal "Psychiatry: Interpersonal & Biological Processes." Appreciation for the article highlighting the adaptive and positive responses of individuals and populations in response to threat, disaster, and terrorism; Discussion on crowd behaviors and crowd disasters as forms of collective response; Arguments pertaining to the need for analyzing complex issues involved in collective behaviors, both positive and negative; Difference in the intensity of intense affiliative behaviors among those directly affected by disasters and terror.
