Abstract

Nursing records are often written in fragmentary language, using phrases and abbreviations that are only understood among nurses working in the same clinical setting With colleagues from the Sydney Centre for Applied Nursing Research, I analysed examples of nursing documentation collected from ten hospitals. Grammatical features were examined to determine whether a reader unfamiliar with the specific clinical setting could understand what was written.
