Abstract

To respond to the ageing world, this book sets out to help researchers, policy makers, service providers, and students develop their knowledge of the issues associated with ageing and mental health throughout the world. Written by 21 gerontological experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Oceania, this book provides an understanding of issues related to ageing and mental health from global perspectives. In this chapter we attempt to integrate the core findings of this book, which reinforce the need for policies and aged care services to respond to the diversity in mental health services for older people in socially, culturally, and geographically different settings. The themes highlighted in this chapter have important implications for policy making, service provision, and the conduct of gerontological research.
