    Abstract

![CDATA[This paper presents the studies on the engineering practice of condition monitoring and retrofitting strategies for one typical underground commercial square structure located in Daqing Dongfeng (subsequently called DDUCSS engineering), northeast of China, subject to soil, groundwater, foundation and environmental interactions. The condition monitoring includes the following procedures: material strength and performance check using non-destructive methods, structural damage evaluations and deformation observations, investigation of environmental parameters from hydrological and geological aspect, numerical analysis on anti-uplifting of structure and the impact of groundwater levels, detailed check of structural design and condition evaluation including stairways, column heads and foots, walls and floors etc. Based on the comparison of calculation with observation, the comprehensive retrofitting strategy incorporating waterproof curtain, grouting strengthening, structural reinforcement and structural health monitoring system was proposed.]]
