Abstract
One result of economic growth is an increase in generation of solid waste, which normally was dumped in landfills and caused contamination of soil, water, and air from toxic substances, such as polychlorinated biphenyls, asbestos, construction chemicals, and heavy metals. But the scarcity of landfilling areas, industrial growth, and strict environmental regulations in developed and developing economies have led to the global reassessment of the methods employed to recycle and utilize construction and demolition waste. It is used as recycled aggregate for civil engineering applications, i.e., construction and infrastructure development. The main aim of this chapter is to provide information on the production and utilization of recycled aggregate in concrete products, concrete pavements, roadway construction, and other civil engineering works. Suggestions on how to use recycled material effectively is also provided.
