Abstract
In this article, we describe procedures used in the development of a scale of militant extremist mindset. We use a new approach to scale construction to accomplish two goals: (a) capture contemporary expression of militant extremism and (b) assess militant extremism with statements that are as close as possible to the statements generated by members of the militant extremist groups themselves. To accomplish these goals, we use two distinct approaches – linguistic and psychometric.
