    Abstract

![CDATA[Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has a long history of controversy. It is an issue that has divided the public and scientific community alike. Many make adamant claims that ADHD is a well validated medical condition with an identifiable causal physical pathology, quickly dismissing those who question its validity and associated medical treatments. In direct opposition to this group are those who claim that ADHD is merely a descriptive label that serves the needs of the adults, more so than the needs of children. This paper provides an overview of the controversial aspects of ADHD with reference to the most common arguments used to support the notion that it is a medical condition, as well as the counter arguments typically used by those doubting its validity as a medical condition.]]
