Abstract

The Counting On 2008 program is a product of the series of Counting On programs that began in 2000 and which have continued to expand and evolve to the current manifestation. The program has a twin learning focus upon students and teachers. The initial program was designed for first year secondary school students (Year 7) who had not achieved specific New South Wales Stage 3 mathematics outcomes by the time they commenced secondary school. It was later extended to include the primary schools. The program focused on the professional learning of teachers in identifying and addressing the student’s learning needs and used a facilitated model of professional development.
