Abstract
Creativity should be at the core of all forms of education and research. It is argued here that we undervalue and underutilise artistic creativity in both these contexts. Furthermore, the fullest exploitation of such artistic creativity should involve a symbiosis between artistic and scientific ideas. An important interface of these ideas occurs in the new media. The fullest development of new media will thus require increased recognition and support for this interface. The paper identifies mechanisms which might permit this development, and advocates the likely importance of sensibility to new media for the uptake of future technological and scientific advances.
