Abstract
![CDATA[The paper explores conceptual and applied research on the issues surrounding excessive gambling and the propensity for gambling dependence within ethnic communities. Silence, secrecy and taboos about problem gambling create isolation of victims, their families, friends and associates; a whole sub-group can be affected. Gambling support groups acknowledge this outcome and the need for adult learning and user-friendly materials to enable cross-cultural communication, and heighten awareness of the risks associated with gambling as a recreational pursuit.]]
