Crossing borders : into the future

This book has been framed around the concept of border crossings. Most refugees- be they parents, other adults, children or orphaned young people -have spent a large part of their lives crossing borders. They cross geographical borders as they flee from their homelands and undertake dangerous journeys to reach refugee camps. As explained in Chapter 2, some will remain in camps for many years, many will be repatriated, but increasing numbers of refugees are now likely to become integrated into the impoverished, neighbouring countries to which they have fled. A tiny minority- less than 2 per cent will achieve resettlement in a more developed country such as Australia.
