Abstract
Cultural issues intruded unexpectedly and dramatically into my training GIM sessions, as an Australian national living in the New York region. In due course, this set me to thinking about cultural awareness and competency as an important aspect of professional practice in GIM. Among my experiences of pleasant childhood imagery within a GIM session, I reported seeing a black swan" and my GIM therapist gasped, quite audibly! Luckily, I had the presence of mind to briefly explain about black swans in Australia.
