Culture shock

Abstract

The concept of “culture shock” is attributed to anthropological studies, described as the dissonance experienced when faced with cultural immersion in societies or destinations that are different to one’s own. It goes through four stages: honeymoon, crisis, recovery, and adjustment (Oberg 1960).
