Abstract

The Data Farms sonification (experienced as part of an exhibit (https://sonification.design/) and via an app and tablet or mobile phone) provides users with a three minute spatial audio experience based on a data model that incorporates real time interaction with data centres in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. Apart from pushing the technical barriers of alternative reality through sonification, the application contributes to digital media studies by providing a model, data repository and user experience that expand analytical understandings of the relations among digital infrastructures, people and space.
