Abstract

This paper briefly summarizes some of the design codes on concrete-filled steel tubes (CFST) from the mainland, China. Some key issues for the design on concrete-filled steel tubular members are discussed. The topics covered include: (1) Columns subjected to static loading; (2) Columns subjected to cyclic loading; 3) Fire resistance and residual strength for the composite columns after exposure to fire; (4) Long-term load effects; (5) Effects of pre-stress in steel tubes on the composite columns; (6) Effects of local buckling of steel tubes; (7) Effects of concrete compaction; and (8) High performance concrete-filled steel tubular columns.
